Living Earthquake Risk Model

Goal: To develop a better and more complete tool for evaluating earthquake risk in the San Francisco Bay Area. This Living Risk Model is to be used in promoting, prioritizing and implementing risk reduction efforts.

Concept: Develop a framework and pilot project(s?) for an accessible, secure data repository and modeling system that is to be used to evaluate earthquake risk for communities (not single buildings) and improve understanding of potential earthquake losses and recovery times. This tool also will be used to evaluate the effects of risk management decisions/approaches on future losses and recovery. The system/repository is for shared used by emergency managers, engineers, scientists, financial/insurance interests, planners and building officials, and others interested in evaluating earthquake risk, communicating risk, promoting risk reduction, prioritizing mitigation, and implementing mitigation programs.
